Black pepper

Black pepper is a popular spice that comes from the berries of the Piper nigrum plant. These berries are dried and ground to produce the black pepper powder that we commonly use in cooking. It adds a familiar pungent and slightly spicy flavour to dishes.

To make black pepper, the berries are harvested when they are still green and unripe. They are then sun-dried until they shrivel and turn black, which gives them their characteristic flavour. After drying, the outer layer of the berries is removed to reveal the black seed inside, which is then ground into the fine powder we use in our kitchens.

Black pepper is a common ingredient in many recipes because it enhances the overall flavour of dishes. It adds a subtle heat and depth to savoury dishes like soups, stews, marinades, and meats. You can find black pepper in products like sauces, seasonings, salad dressings, and snacks. Its presence on food labels indicates that the product likely has a rich and savoury taste.
