Double cream

Double cream is a thick and rich dairy ingredient that comes from cow's milk. Unlike single cream or whipping cream, double cream has the highest fat content, making it ultra-creamy and ideal for adding a luxurious touch to dishes.

To make double cream, fresh cow's milk is left to stand so the cream can rise to the top. This cream is then skimmed off and pasteurised to ensure it is safe to eat. The high-fat content gives double cream its smooth texture and rich flavour.

Double cream is commonly used in dishes like soups, sauces, desserts, and sometimes in coffee. It adds richness, creaminess, and depth of flavour. When whipped, it can hold its shape well, making it perfect for topping desserts like scones or cakes. Keep an eye out for double cream in labels if you're looking for a decadent touch to your cooking or baking.
