Dried skimmed milk

Dried skimmed milk is a common food ingredient derived from dairy sources. Skimmed milk is milk with the cream removed, and then it is dried to create a powder. This process helps to extend the shelf life of the milk and makes it more convenient for storage and transportation.

To produce dried skimmed milk, the liquid skimmed milk is first pasteurised and then evaporated to remove most of the moisture content. The remaining concentrated milk is then sprayed into hot air to dry it out completely, resulting in a fine powder. This powder form makes it easy to incorporate into various food products.

You'll often find dried skimmed milk listed on food labels as it is used in a wide range of products such as baked goods, soups, sauces, and desserts. It can enhance the creaminess and texture of foods like ice cream or yoghurt, add richness to sauces, and contribute to the browning of baked items. Dried skimmed milk also provides a source of dairy protein and calcium to many foods.
