Ground nutmeg

Ground nutmeg is a spice that comes from the nutmeg tree's seeds, a tropical evergreen tree. The seeds are ground into a fine powder that is commonly used in cooking to add a warm, aromatic flavour to dishes.

To make ground nutmeg, the seeds of the nutmeg tree are dried for several weeks before the outer shell is removed to reveal the seed inside. This seed, known as the nutmeg kernel, is then ground into a fine powder using a grinder or mortar and pestle.

Ground nutmeg is frequently listed on food labels due to its ability to enhance the flavour of both sweet and savoury dishes. It is commonly used in baking, such as in cakes, cookies, and pies, as well as in savoury recipes like soups, stews, and sauces. Nutmeg is also a key ingredient in popular mixed spices like pumpkin pie spice and curry powder.
